Welcome to #Follow Friday at Studio 4 PR! Every Friday, I’ll feature influential people worth following. Most of the time, they’ll be relevant to finding and being found by your ideal client, but my main goal is to make them meaningful. Or fun. Or both.
If you have a tip to share with other entrepreneurs or small business owners, please send it to email@example.com with Follow Friday in the subject line. I won’t post anything that’s offensive, small-minded, mean-spirited, or negative, so please be nice. Just sayin’
Elizabeth Smart Empowers Women
Every year, the YWCA of Rochester holds its Empowering Women Luncheon. It’s a big deal, with a lot of important dignitaries in attendance, as well as a few thousand women who have come to hear the keynote speaker.
This year’s speaker was Elizabeth Smart (@ElizSmart), who was kidnapped in 2002 at the age of 14 and held in captivity for nine months before being rescued. The YWCA of Rochester helps women and children out of the pit of hopelessness and promotes racial justice, so it was fitting that Smart was the keynote because she spoke about hope. That’s pretty hard to find when faced with pregnancy, no job, and no home like many of the young women the YWCA helps, but Smart encouraged everyone facing difficult times to dig deep and believe.
Listening to Smart speak, I thought she’s so beautiful and poised. Considering all she’s been through, how can anyone be afraid of anything, ever?
Today, Smart is using her experience to help prevent crimes against children through the efforts of the Elizabeth Smart Foundation.
